HAROLD ELEPHANT

Hi everyone! My name is Harold Elephant. I am 10 years old. I live in Africa, in a country named Elephas.

I want to be an astronaut when I grow up. Elephas doesn’t have a space program. But I hope we will have one soon. Then I can be the first elephant to go into space. My mummy and daddy say I need to study math and science more if I want to be an astronaut. I know they are right, but studying can be hard sometimes. Especially when I have toy soldiers to play with.

I like to collect toy soldiers. I have a big collection now. And I like to add more when I find new kinds. I have some toy soldiers that belonged to my Daddy and Granddad when they were kids. My friends and I like to use our toy soldiers to act out famous battles.

I have lots of friends at school. We like to play lots of sports. I like to play football (that’s soccer to you) and rounders. I don’t play netball (that’s for girls!). I love cricket. Penelope thinks cricket is boring, but it’s not. I follow all the test matches of the Elephas national team.

Penelope jokes that gym is my favorite class. Because I like sports so much. “Ha, ha,” I say. “That shows what you know. My favorite class happens to be lunch! So there, Miss Smarty Pants.”

Actually, my favorite class is science. Penelope gets better grades than me. But she gets better grades in every class. I still like science class best. We get to learn about stars and planets. And rocks. And animals. And Penelope’s dinosaurs. There are just so many interesting things out there.
